Using Teras on WhatsApp

You don't have to open the app for most things. Message your community's Teras number in plain language and the assistant works out what you want.

There are no commands to memorise. "Who came yesterday?", "I need an entry pass", "how much do I owe" — all fine. Write the way you'd write to a person.

Before you start

Your number must be registered with your community. The assistant only replies to residents it recognises. If you message from an unregistered number, you'll get one reply telling you so — contact your community admin to get added.

Wording varies. Replies are written fresh each time, so the same question won't always come back phrased identically. That's normal, not a fault.

Bahasa Malaysia works. So does mixing it with English — "nak daftar pelawat", "apa alamat saya", "boleh log in tak" are all understood.

What you can ask

Sign in to the app

"log me in" "send login link" "I want to access my account" "boleh log in tak"

You get a single-use sign-in link. Tap it and you're in — no password.

/login also works, and it's the one thing that works even when everything else is having a bad day. Worth remembering.

On a computer, open teras.app and enter your phone number. The page shows a QR code — scan it with your phone and WhatsApp opens with a /web-login message already written for you. Send it and the computer signs itself in. You never have to type or memorise that command; the QR fills it in.

Get an entry pass for yourself

"I need an entrypass" "create entry pass" "entry pass"

The assistant creates a one-time pass and sends you an Open pass button. It's valid for about 10 minutes, so ask when you're close to the gate, not an hour before.

This is for you getting in — not for a guest. Note this one is only available on WhatsApp; there's no button for it in the app.

Pre-register a guest

"I want to register a visitor" "pre-register a guest" "nak daftar pelawat" "daftar tetamu"

Use this when you know who's coming and want a pass waiting for them.

Depending on your community's setup you'll either get a form to fill in without leaving WhatsApp, or a button that opens the same form in the app. Both end in the same place.

Invite several guests at once

"create an invitation" "invite guests for my event" "buat link jemputan" "nak jemput tetamu"

This gives you a link to share. Each guest registers themselves — much better than entering thirty people by hand.

Which one do I want? If you're typing in one specific person's details, that's pre-register. If you want a link to drop in a group chat, that's an invitation.

Check who visited

"who came today?" "how many visitors today" "who visited last Friday" "did anyone come on 3 June" "visitors yesterday" "how many deliveries last month" "who came between Monday and Wednesday"

Relative dates work — "yesterday", "last Friday", "this week" are all resolved against today's date in Malaysia.

You can narrow by type of visit: food delivery, courier or parcel, pickup, dropoff, maintenance, or family and friends. "How many food deliveries this week" does what you'd expect.

Check who you're expecting

"am I expecting visitors?" "any pre-registered guests?"

Lists guests with a pass who haven't arrived yet.

Check your bills

"how much do I owe" "show my invoices" "what's my payment status"

Lists your outstanding invoices with amounts and due dates, plus a link to pay the oldest.

To pay one:

"I want to pay" "pay my newest invoice"

You get a Pay now button that opens the payment page.

Check your own details

"what's my address?" "what's my unit number" "what details do you have for me?" "apa alamat saya"

Returns the name, phone, email, and address on file for you. Read-only — to change any of it, sign in to the app or ask your community admin.

Follow-ups work

The assistant remembers the last few messages, so you can answer it directly:

You: how much do I owe

Teras: Invoice #012 — 2026 Maintenance Fee: RM 120.00, due 30 Jun.

You: yes

Teras: [sends the payment link]

A bare "yes", "ya", "ok" or "boleh" is read against whatever was just offered. So is "no" or "tak nak" — that's taken as declining, and nothing happens.

This only holds for a recent, active conversation. Come back an hour later and "yes" won't mean anything on its own.

Long lists get cut off

Lists stop at five entries and tell you the total, with a nudge to open the app for the rest. WhatsApp isn't a good place to read forty rows.

When it doesn't understand

You'll get a short reply saying so and asking one clarifying question. Rephrase and it usually lands — being specific about what you want ("show my invoices" rather than "bills?") helps.

If it goes completely quiet, send /login and use the app. That path never depends on the assistant understanding you.

What it can't do yet

Vehicles, household members, and managing passes you've already created are app-only. See What works where for the full picture.
