What Is ANPR, and How Does It Work with TERAS?

You may have seen an ANPR camera at your neighbourhood entrance. But what does it do, and how does it connect to TERAS?

ANPR stands for Automatic Number Plate Recognition. A camera reads a vehicle’s plate number at the gate. When a community has connected its ANPR system to TERAS, that plate can be checked against vehicle and visitor records in the community.

How it works for residents

Residents add their household vehicles in TERAS. To do this, message your community’s TERAS number, type /login, open TERAS, and select Vehicles.

Check that each plate number is entered correctly. The record links the vehicle to your household, helping the community identify it when it reaches the gate.

How it works for visitors

When you pre-register a visitor, TERAS asks for their name and vehicle plate number. Share the visitor pass with your guest before they arrive.

At a community with ANPR integration, the plate read at the gate can be matched with an expected visitor record. The gate’s response depends on that community’s access rules and hardware setup. The visitor pass and guard verification process remain useful when a plate cannot be matched.

Why accurate plate numbers matter

A wrong or outdated plate may prevent the system from finding the right record. If you change cars or a visitor arrives in a different vehicle, update the details or let the guard know so they can follow the community’s entry procedure.

ANPR helps connect what happens at the physical gate with the resident and visitor information in TERAS. It does not remove the guard’s role in checking unusual entries or registering walk-in visitors.

Does every TERAS community have ANPR?

No. ANPR requires suitable cameras, a working connection, and an integration configured for the site. Your RA can tell you whether it is active at your entrance and what residents should expect at the gate.

Want a smoother arrival? Keep your household vehicle plates up to date and pre-register guests with the correct plate number.

Run your community with Teras

Visitor passes over WhatsApp, guard tools on any phone, and fee collection residents actually pay — everything a well-run community needs from day one.
