Notification usage

Each household has a monthly allowance for the WhatsApp notifications Teras sends it, such as visitor arrival alerts. Everyone in your household shares the same allowance. Go to Usage to see how much of this month's allowance you've used.

The allowance resets at the start of every month. Not every community uses one; if yours doesn't, the Usage screen says there is nothing to track.

What used it

Under the monthly figure, What used it lists the kinds of notifications your household received this month, such as food deliveries, couriers and guests with a pass. Each percentage is that kind's share of what your household has spent this month, not a share of the allowance. The percentages are rounded, so they may not add up to exactly 100.

Each row has a tick box. Untick a row to stop that kind of WhatsApp alert to you, and tick it again to turn it back on. The change applies from the next alert onwards.

These switches only affect you. Everyone else in your household keeps their own settings, and their alerts still count towards the shared allowance. If your household wants to spend less, ask each person to untick the alerts they don't need.

When you turn a kind of alert off, you won't get it on WhatsApp, but it still shows in the app. For example, you can open Visitors to see who has arrived.

Invoice reminders are always sent. Their row shows a lock instead of a tick box, and you can't turn them off.

Past 80%: one person per alert

Once your household has used 80% of its allowance, each visitor arrival alert goes to one person instead of everyone in the household:

  • Walk-in visitors (no pass) alert your household's main contact. If no main contact is set, an owner gets the alert instead.
  • Guests with a pass or an invitation alert only the person who created that pass or invitation.

If that person has turned off notifications or has left the household, nobody gets the alert. The rest of the household isn't told about the change, so let them know if they rely on these alerts.

You may also see a one-time warning in a WhatsApp reply when you cross 80%.

At 100%: notifications pause

When your household reaches its full allowance, WhatsApp notifications stop for the rest of the month. You get one message saying so.

Nothing else stops. The guardhouse still lets your guests in, the app works as usual, and you can still sign in by sending /login on WhatsApp. Open Visitors in the app to see who has arrived.

If your household regularly runs out, contact your community admin. They can raise your allowance.
